The Cavanagh.  In October 2012 the EDA purchased the Cavanagh School property from Robbinsdale Area Schools which included 8.3 acres extending from Lakeland to Quail Avenues.

In December 2012 the EDA transferred the east 4 acres (open space) to the city for park purposes and approved the demolition and redevelopment of the west 4.3 acres (school site) for senior housing.  Demolition was completed spring 2013, with funds from Metropolitan Council's Livable Communities Fund for asbestos abatement and from Hennepin County for demolitions and site clearance.

In June 2014, the EDA sold the 4.3 acre school site to Dominium, a private developer who will build a 130 unit senior citizen apartment building ("The Cavanagh") at 5401 51st Avenue North. Construction of The Cavanagh began in July 2014 and was completed in August 2015. For rental information, please call (763) 452-3188 or visit

Crystal's Economic Development Authority (EDA) is working to improve the economic vigor and quality of life in the Crystal community. One of the ways of achieving this goal is through redevelopment of properties for increased business or industrial operations, in order to enhance the City's tax base and create job opportunities. Projects completed in recent years include the following:

crystal medical building Crystal Medical Center. In May 2011, the EDA purchased two acres of vacant, excess highway property from Hennepin County and sold it to a private developer who had also purchased private property from willing sellers.  The developer used the resulting four acre site to build a $12 million, 40,000 sq. ft. medical office building which opened in spring 2012.
